Virin Baggage Lost - They Want Recipets

I was travelling from New York to London on Virgin and they managed to lose a huge bag with all my clothes / electric toothbrush / towels and so.
I was nearly in tears when they told me as it had ractically everything in there.
The question is they now have accepted it was lost and would like to se reciepts for the lost items.
My problem is I dont keep reciepts and the majority of the items had been bought over the last five years.
Does anybody know what I shoul be doing under these circumsatnces?

How much are you claimimg for?
Is what you are claimimg for reasonable?0 -
I am claiming 500 pounds which I think is reasonable given the weight of the bag
20 KG was chcked in and went missing
In fairness it has cost me a lot more then that in replacing the goods0 -
I think you will have to provide more detail rather than plucking a figure out of thin air.
Why only claim this amount if it has cost you more to replace the goods?
You will have to provide details of the type of suitcase and a list of contents (as far as you can remember) was your Gucci watch and Sony camcorder in there as well?

replace everything and give them the new receipts.....0

I think you will find it is a case of let us have receipts *if you have them*.
You will certainly need to prepare a comprehensive list of the contents, age and a write down for wear and tear. For any specific electrical items of value, you will need to state the model numbers etc if possible.
Did you have your own travel insurance for the trip - you could claim on this or even a household policy for personal possession lost and leave them to deal with the airline.
It is also possible that the bag might turn up ...0
