Hello peeps
Been trawling the net all evening as I have decided I want to return to education, but I keep going round in circles!!
I'm a lone parent in receipt of WTC/CTC. DS starts school full-time in September and I am really keen to go to University.
Problem is I have a mortgage and the course I really want to do is Post graduate which I beleive I cannot get any financial assistance for!!??
Can anybody steer me in the right direction please?? As far as financing my study. I would still be working part-time in the evenings so could probably manage to get by but have I got my head in the clouds thinking I can work and study and be a lone parent too?? Would I still be eligible for the WTC etc as a full-time student???
The course is only one year and I am determined to do it.
Any feedback/help appreciated!!
Thanks:D

no great solutions that i know of i'm afraid, although if there's anyway you can get funded for your course, your department could help. sign the petition on another thread to get student loans extended to postgrads becuase this is exactly the type of situation that they could help!
there's also a useful thread on access to leaning funds:

Thanks melancholly. I have signed the petition. Seems a little unfair that funding is available for all other courses but not for Postgraduate Courses.I'm not a "SINGLE" mum, I'm a "DOUBLE" mum!:D0

what course is it?
AHRC do fund PG masters/PhDs but it is worth baring in mind competition is fierce and generally only for 1st UGs intending to do PhDs. also its only for research courses.
there are lots of different grants available for some really random reasons (ie. you lived in such and such a borough for such and such a time, or a parent was in RAF etc)
I've been trying to find a PG grant for student parents (for myself too) but have so far been unsuccessful.:A Boots Tart :A0 -
I am looking to do a QCG (Careers Guidance). Sorry what's AHRC??? I'm a newbie to the higher education system. I do not meet the academic entry requirements but have alot of previous experience in this! Cant do the job without the necessary qualifications. I'd love to find a job where I could study towards this qualification at the same time but as I said in original post. I have spent hours trawling the net and am still none the wiser!! Grrr!!I'm not a "SINGLE" mum, I'm a "DOUBLE" mum!:D0

AHRC is the arts and humanities research council, they are a public funded body from the govt. and the lottery who award money for PG research for excellence.
think students with straight 1sts aiming to become doctorates and professors.
this is a govt site that might help you begin to search for a grant http://www.prospects.ac.uk/cms/ShowPage/Home_page/Funding_my_further_study/p!edLff
this is a govt. funded site but might help you find a grant to suit your situation. think rich men wanting to help out future students:A Boots Tart :A0 -
Thanks Karnam. I will take a look!!!I'm not a "SINGLE" mum, I'm a "DOUBLE" mum!:D0
