Erroneous Transfer

Hi,

About June/July of last year we switched our Gas and Electricity supplier from edf to Scottish Hydro. The electricity switch went fine, but the Gas didn't and nothing appeared from either company asking about this. In early December i decided to contact Scottish Hydro to query the situation and was found that Gas did not switch and have received a letter stating the Erroneous Transfer and switching back to edf to back date the bill. This is going to leave me and my flatmate a hefty bill and I wonder what our rights/what actions we can take in this situation?

Thanks

Hmmm - Something not quite right here - "Erroneous Transfer" is the term used when a supplier accidently takes over an account - Possibly due to a mix-up in addresses or meter numbers when taking over an account

What you have is a "Failed Switch" which can happen for any number of reasons, but usually because the existing supplier refuses to let the customer go because there is debt on the account
    .
If you don't have a debt with EDF, it's important that you find out why the Gas Switch failed - It could be that there is a problem with the your Meter on the National Register, in which case you will never be able to Switch until it's sorted out.
WRITE a joint letter to both EDF & Scot Hydro headed Complaint asking for a detailed, written explanation of the exact reasons the Gas Switch failed.

So far billing is concerned, you will eventually get a Gas bill from EDF.
The problem is that as it will be for a Single Fuel, you'll have lost any Duel Fuel discount you were getting from EDF - If the reason for the failed Switch is meter mis-registration or an error by EDF, argue the point for a discount off the gas bill when you get it

You will still have to pay for the unbilled gas, if that is the question. But you must have known that a bill would eventually be forthcoming, so hopefully you've made some provision for that in the meantime.
Why did you wait 6m before contacting SH?

It will be the same bill , as think you havent paid anyone? ET is where you have not agreed to a contract and your supply is taken over, or the supplier doesnt want you as a customer.
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • Cheers for help guys. There was a debt that has been resolved with edf around 3 months ago so i did expect some form of contact to advise what happens in terms of switch. So when the debt was paid, they should have then switched it to Hydro but when i phoned them they were oblivious to the whole situation. edf must have got the money due and then not switched it over. I will see what edf say when they send out bill and then take it from there.

    Cheers
