Smoke alarms

This is just a warning to anyone with elderly relatives. My friends 90 year old father has just been conned out of £400 by some ******** that fitted ONE smoke alarm and ONE carbon monoxide alarm. How anyone can prey on vulnerable people like this is beyond me.
If anyone needs a smoke alarm enquire at your local fire station and they will come and fit one for free.

Sorry to hear about your relatives experience. Not all fire stations do this however.
  • Not unheard of, companies like this are disgusting in my opinion. How did they approach him - was it unsolicited, and if so, did they give him cancellation rights?

It may not be beneficial to you, but please report this to Trading Tsandard. they need information like this to help stop the robbing little B*****ds from doing it to others. Any evidence they get all counts. In the meantime, ask if there is a ColdCall scheme in the area. If not, see about setting one up.
Don't bother trying to sue me - I've got no money!

My Dad was conned into having two of those disposal carbon monoxide detectors 'installed' and was charged an hefty £30. Our local Help the aged were giving them away.
  • Thought all fire stations were now fitting smoke alarms as part of the community safety programme that has now been introduced  Perhaps it is just Shropshire Fire and Rescue then, all stations in shropshire even the retained ones will fit smoke alarms, you just have to ask them.
It was a cold caller, he had previously been scammed before by another firm. Will pass on to trading standards as recommended, hope they can stop this firm, personally I don't understand how anyone can take such advantage of vunerable people.
