if a single person lives in a 3 bedroom housing association house would they be able to swap to a 2 bedroom.
there would be 2 adults and 3 kids leaving the 2 bed for the 3 bed.
i was searching on the internet and i think that a single person in a 3 bed house could only move into a 1 bed house.
does anyone know please

Anything is possible. I believe that if it's a mutual exchange the HA may get to have a say in it. But to all intents and purposes the family in the two-bed are getting more appropriate housing without the LA having to come up with one but all HAs are different. Why don't you just ask them? You are likely to get a much more helpful and accurate answer from them0

You could always do a three way swap.
You into a one bed
The overcrowded in one bed to the two
And the two to the three
Thats what i would do0 -
It is very possible but totally depends on the area, places like London and brighton no way, but I have done 2 mutual exchanges with 2 single people who moved into my 2 bed flat. One was from a 3 bed house and the other was from a 2 bed flat, she was actually told by Brighton council she would only be able to swap to a 1 bed yet neighbouring ADUR council allowed it.
So really the only way to find out for sure is phone the council or housing association you wish to exchange to.0 -
Can only advise on our councils stance and it was a few yrs ago (about 5).
Nan had a 3 bed property, lived alone and wanted to downsize.
The council said, if they found her a property then she would only be entitled to a one bedroom as that was all she needed. However if she did it by herself ( mutal exchange) then she could exchange to a two bedroom property.
But the people she swapped with would have to need a 3 bed.
edited to say this was London borough of Sutton. Presume different council and HA have different rules and conditions0 -

This sounds pretty sensible to me to be honest.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
What need would there be for you to maintain a 2 bedroom house? If it is other than just the luxury of having a two bedroom house, I don't think that social housing will accommodate for it. When buying a house you get what you can afford based on your circumstances, I would assume the same holds true for social housing.0
