Aw that's a shame, what side effects did he have from the Metacam? Mine gets it just the day/day after he's been to the hydrotherapy unless he needs it more and hasn't seemed to have any problems with it so far. At just 3 it's obviously not a long-term solution though.

It made him kinda dizzy. He stumbled a lot and seemed quite disorientated.

So far, he seems Ok after his hydrotherapy. He gets a bit stiff the same evening, but the following morning he seems fine again.

I just wish I knew how much discomfort he was in. Dogs are so tolerant of pain, I would hate to think he was hurting but just not showing it.

Have you tried many supplements for it? I'm sure Devil's Claw really helped my girly when the Metacam wasn't enough, and there are loads more supplements available for joint issues nowadays.

He has a herbal joint supplement with his food.

I don't know if it is the cartrophen injection but he has seemed quite subdued today. I know one of the side effects can be them being quiet the day they have the jab, I am just not sure why it would affect them that way.

His joints do seem to be improving, I haven't noticed any stiffness for a few days now and his legs haven't locked up at all. He also seems to be less sore.

I hope it is working, its costing me a fortune!

Just a quick update for if it helps anyone else...

Tyson has now had his 3rd Cartrophen injection, and he seems to be doing really well. The vet had a good pull about of his legs and said that his muscle tone seems to be developing well which suggests he is starting to use his legs properly and he seems in a lot less pain.

They have said that the real difference is unlikely to be seen until after the 4th injection, but so far so good.

Unsure what is helping him the most at the moment as he is still on his anti-inflammatory tablets too and has been having hydrotherapy, although has missed a week of this.

All going well so far though :D
