Honestly at one time or another we've all been tax payers, so they should be fair to us and as the CAB are saying stick to their own damn guidelines and not keep keep trying to take the p*ss. The only reason they're doing this (I suspect) is they're been pushed by government to make it harder to get any kind of help, be it tax credits or any other kind of benefit.
Also I imagine It's partly jumping the gun and paving the way for the new harsher (and some might say unfair) rules and regs when the dreaded universal credit comes in.No it is all about people using tax credits to avoid sigining on. The reason unemployment is going up so fast is because people are now being kicked off these benifits like ESA and IB and SE tax credits this is where Labour (I am a supporter!) hid loads of unemployed for years now it is all coming out. BTW We are all tax payers unless you live in a cave grow and catch all your own food have no bills and poo in a bush and live near a fresh water spring.
To be fair, it's about both. It's not a black or white debate.
Weary soul: thank you for the link you posted earlier. That thread has some very helpful clarification through case law. The situation isn't cut and dried. I would say, vis a vis Universal Credit (I support the concept but have a great many reservations with the briefing notes supplied so far) - people WILL be able to work like this and still get paid top-up benefits, rather than being stuck on JSA. However, they'll be expected to conform to some form of conditionality. Ignoring the actual thresholds (hours, money, levels of conditionality) set, that is a good principle? No?0 -
Well considering how poorly and some might say unfairly the government run most things I somehow doubt it.
The moment proposals for how UC will effect the self employed were released the small business unions were up in arms and already trying to lobby the government, saying that it will be the death knell for any new small business trying to find their feet in the first few years. No it is all about people using tax credits to avoid sigining on.
In your opinion, not everybody's.We are all tax payers unless you live in a cave grow and catch all your own food have no bills and poo in a bush and live near a fresh water spring.
Good, I hope people remember that before jumping on others and accusing them of spunging off the state. We have all contributed towards the state one way or another.0 -

Some of us are still paying taxes and not claiming welfare!Weary_soul wrote: »Also I imagine It's partly jumping the gun and paving the way for the new harsher (and some might say unfair) rules and regs when the dreaded universal credit comes in.
While others say 'about bl@@dy time'!
Tax Credits was the worst welfare payment that ever came in; parents won't put in the hours to support their own children; adults won't put in the work to keep themselves; employers pay less as they know welfare picks up the tab. The welfare needs the changes as too many healthy adults are living on welfare rather than working to keep themselves/ their own family.RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

Good for you. I'm sure many people would love to be in your position to be able to do so. I'm also sure that many who before they became unemployed or sick paid tax too.
Also you do get that we all pay taxes in other ways even when we're unemployed or ill right? Like VAT, food, etc?Tax Credits was the worst welfare payment that ever came in; parents won't put in the hours to support their own children; adults won't put in the work to keep themselves; employers pay less as they know welfare picks up the tab. I'm quite happy to support the jobseekers and those who really are sick; that's what the welfare state was set up for. It's what the government are aiming to get back to.RENTING? Well considering the daily reports I read of many ill and disabled people losing their homes, I think their aim seems to be to kill off as many people as they can get their grubby and corrupt hands on. 'Government for the rich, by the rich'.
But then thats just me.
