Ok heres the gen... Loaned my Acer aspire one to a mate. It was all but brand new when i gave it to him, he's since gave it back but by the looks of it he has tried to install a Non-genuine copy of Windows 7 ultimate on it. Don't ask me why I can't answer that (It says Non genuine copy of W 7 Ultimate in the bottom corner of my pc), But we are no longer mates. I bought it with Windows XP and the only way I thought I could get back to the status quo was to reformatt it. Can anyone help or advise please.

First you need to see if the recovery partition is still there. You may either see this from "Computer", or if hidden, within the control panel/admin tools/computer management/disk management options. If you think it is okay then follow this to recover the system to its original state. If your ex-mate has also destroyed the recovery partition then a differnt route would be needed.

Then thats a little trickier. If no recovery partition then a bootable copy of xp on a usb stick could be a solution. ther is software out there that lets u make one ,but u will probably be better off doing it on another puter
Think alt+ f11 might access recovery partion but it should tell u in manualAlways remember that you're unique, just like everybody else:cool:0 -

No I don't have an optical drive. The partition seems ok but I can't see anywhere to do a recovery?? I followed the link to the geek forum which says press adn hold Alt then F10 with no luck??
When I restart the options are F2 set up or F12 Change Boot orderIf youcan lie down at night knowing in your heart that you just made someone’s day just a little bit better, you know you had a good day!!0 -

Then I think yr recovery partition has been knackered. you can get an external USB dvd drive on ebay for less than £20. If you don;t havve a XP disk, can't borrow one, then someone, Take This, may be able to provide a downlaod (I understand that you have the COA)?
Then there are the drivers - Acer's driver backup site is a pain, just maybe they are still on the recovery partition, so don't delete it just yet.0
