Buildings insurance

Hello all, around 6years ago I took out a 5year fixed mortgage with West Brom. I was told that in order to qualify I must take home insurance from them too. When I phoned to cancel my Tesco insurance they said the lender wasn't allowed to insist I take their insurance. I did anyway but I did write to them and ask. They confirmed in writing that I only had to take buildings insurance but that contents too was a "good deal" so I continued.
As this isn't strictly PPI is it naughty, can I claim anything?
Cheers, Mark

My wife has just reminded me that as this was lumped with the mortgage payment we were also charged interest on it, I think at the same rate as the mortgage payment?0
