Did you not notice your Council tax direct debit wasn't being taken? My Gas & Elec direct debit hasn't gone out this month and the extra £90 still in my account stands out like a sore thumb.0 -
doesnt really stand out, as all bills go out over 2 days, sky tv DD is different price each month, phone bills etc etc so not something noticeable.
money goes in and out, wages and other income diff each month0 -
why did you pay the costs?!?? You should've just paid the money you owed, NOT the extra they added due to THEIR mistake.
I'd now send them a letter before action, telling them that you want the costs refunded in full in the next 28 days, otherwise you'll take them to court. Supply all the evidence you've stated i.e. direct debit set up, proof you did NOT make any phone call etc... and ask them for proof that they sent the bill.
If they don't cough up, just take them to court.
(you could have avoided all this if you'd just paid the amount and not the costs - in future, stick up for yourself!)Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

So at what point would you notice?0

At this point there is nothing to say that the council are at fault - a DD was setup for rent , at the moment there's nothing to say it was set up for council tax. The council have evidence of calls received about the council tax, after a Reminder had been sent. In any case the law is on the councils side providing they can show a demand notice and reminder were sent - it is regarded as suspicious by a council when the demand and reminder aren't received but the summons is...
At the moment there are too many unanswered questions to state who is a t fault - the OP needs to go back to the council and discuss the matter in depth.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
On a side note, unless you're changing your package each month then I suggest you take a look into why your Sky direct debit changes every 4 weeks!0

sky bills are weired, as i have tv, phome and broadband, i add sports, remove a few months later, add espn, order films on box office etc. call charges etc.
