i`m trying to fix an Acer Aspire x3300 as the bios is not recognizing harddrive/dvd drive. The hard drive itself works (put it in a usb hub),ive removed memory sticks and tried new ones. I can get puter to work using linux and a usb stick -works fine, flashed and updated the bios, but still nothing...I reckon the motherboards had it but thought i`d ask if anybody had any other ideas first

Hi, I may not have the right spec, but from here support.acer.com/acerpanam/.../acer/2010/.../SG_X3300X5300_051...
it appears that it has 2 sata slots and one esata slot; the sata slots should have the hdd and optical drive connected.
If this is incorreect then please ignore. If you are trying to connect via an esata port, many of the cables available are somewhat iffy - I had to try 5 before I got one that worked.
Have you tried temporarily detaching the optical drive and connecting the second hdd using the existing cables?
There can be other issues if indeed this is not the spec that you have.0 -

Okay I misunderstood you...........so the existing sata slots are not working, however you can get the PC to boot into linux via a flash drive - I agree with you that the sata controller on the mainboard may have got fried - if you have a mind, you could get a separate pci-e sata adapter card and plug your drives in there? You can get for a £10 on ebay?
I think the PSU is only 220w? This is a little light, it may be worth trying using another psu temporarily to see if that makes any difference?0 -
