Hi i have a query about driving a second car.
My policy is fully comp allowing me to drive the vehicle of someone else as third party only.
My query is can i drive another vehicle even if the current owner does not have it insured?m (assuming valid mot and tax)?

A banker is someone who lends you an umbrella when the sun is shining, and who asks for it back when it start to rain.

No you can't your policy will state that the other car must not be owened by you, rented to you. It must be insured and taxed by someone else. Read the small print TP extension is not all that good, I would use it for emerg situation only.If I have been helpful - Hit the Thanks button0 -

I agree with the first part but not every policy requires the other car to be insured in someone else's name - although the problem then arises when the car is parked on the road, not being driven but being used within the meaning of the Road Traffic Act.Debt at highest: September 2003 - £26,350
Debt now: £14,100

I have just got my new policy and it makes no mention of another car having to be insured by another person.
It cannot be owned by me
'Mr *********** is also insured to drive with the owners consent any motor car not belonging to him and not hired to him under a hire purchase or lease agreement and provided that the motor car is being used within the limitations listed below. this cover is restricted to Third Party Liability only.'
The limitations listed are the usual SDP & Commuting, not used in motor trade etc.DavidHM wrote:I agree with the first part but not every policy requires the other car to be insured in someone else's name - although the problem then arises when the car is parked on the road, not being driven but being used within the meaning of the Road Traffic Act.
So theoretically if i park in my driveway, drive to work, park in their car park and drive home and park on the driveway again i would not be commiting an ofence?A banker is someone who lends you an umbrella when the sun is shining, and who asks for it back when it start to rain.0 -
I have never heard of the requirement for the other vehicle to be insured (though I can see the reasons for it being a good idea).
The 3 issues are that a vehicle must be insured to get its road tax, you would not be able to park it in a public place (inc roads, car parks etc) and most insurers require it to be for emergency purposes only so you may invalidate your cover if you abuse the sectionAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers
