debt and divorce

Hi,
I really could do with some advice right now as I am really worried about this.

History is: Hubby (no longer together) and I had been together for 10 years. 6 years ago hubby went bankrupt, so was unable to get any credit since.
Over the last 6 years we've needed stuff for the home and ive had to buy it on credit, some credit cards and 1 catalogue.

In Oct last year we went our seperate ways.

I am now left a single parent, with 3 children youngest 3yrs eldest 13yrs.
I work 16 hours a week :)
I am left with around 6k worth of debt and i am worried about how i am going to pay all this back.
I am filing for divorce so what i need to know is: Can i include these debts in the divorce even though they are in my sole name?? I can provide evidence of what was bought. We have no property to sell or any savings so i dont really know what to do. Can anyone advise?
Thankyou

    Does he have any assets?

And yes - if you can show that you bought then goods for the house not pampering kits, you can include them in the divorce.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
  • No, neither of us have any assets.

I can prove it was to buy things like sofa, telly, carpets, bed, beds for kids etc etc

Thanks for that, my solicitor is useless so having to find another now

yes they will be debts to be disclosed in the Financial statement. Are you agreeing the terms of the divorce through Mediation, or going to court? The former is to be preferred, a good solicitor will be able to recommend a good mediation service, which you may claim for as you have no assets and low income.
