Confusion...please help!!

Hi all

I've recently posted a query on some help on claiming back PPI and a lot of people have kindly given their time to help me. For whatever reason I never looked into this seriously enough and for the following reasons.

Around early 2006 I was in a lot of debt, the only way out was securing a loan on my home. I ended up paying off 85k in debt that I had accrued through CC's, HP and personal loans.

I've learned from my mistakes and have maintained a relatively debt free existence since I settled the debts in 2006 (bar my mortgage and the secured loan).

But now looking at this PPI I see that the lenders hold the account details for 6 years.....well I settled all these debts 5 years and 10 months ago (well, just over that), so, I have about 4-6 weeks before they discard? the records.

So...I need to move fast?

I do have all the account/credit numbers but no agreements, I threw them away when I paid them off....more out of anger that I had let myself get into that position...but now I could do with them.

I'm debating sending the template letter requesting the agreements as I am worried they'll delay posting the documents to me then before I know it the 6 year period is up and I cannot claim?

Or should I just send a letter to them lodging a claim citing misselling of PPI with reasons....albeit I will not have my agreements??

Or am I looking at this the wrong way and over thinking it? It's doing my head in!!

I'm sure there could be a few quid in it...I would feel more comfortable if I had my old agreements in front of me before claiming but again, will I have the time to request the agreements before lodging a complaint given all the accounts were settled just under 6 years ago?

Sorry if I've made little or no sense...I'm confusing myself as well you know!!

Cheers

If you have the account numbers you will probably be better at just sending a letter with your complaint to each one or ring their designated ppi complaints line or the original bank etc.

Send recorded or proof of posting and allow at least 8 weeks sometimes more before you chase up usually you will get a letter of acknowledgement and or a result of their findings.

At this stage if they say not upheld then you will have to contact FOS
this may be a lengthy wait but they do keep you posted on the situation

As long as you have a valid reason for misale then it is worth doing this yourself none if the claims company you less you want to give them up to 49% as some horror stories I have heard !

    Good luck
