I've always used DVD Decryptor to RIP to the PC, but found the lots of .vob files it creates a PITA.
Was advised to use Handbrake to convert the files to something more usable, but struggled to get it to work properly and gave up in the end:o
Any chance of an idiots guide for Handbrake Rik?:)0 -

There was a guide on the net several years ago something like "how to rip a movie like axxo" you may have to play around with the words its from a deep dark place in my memory. Found it www.google.com/search?q=how+to+rip+a+movie Specifically this one is good how-to-create-axxo-quality-dvd-rips/
This will give you some good info but may well be out of date.
handbrake avi output gives handbrake-to-avi
GK/AGK that WhiteChristmas mentioned is a very well known ripping program, but has been superseded by the likes of anydvd(slysoft)/handbrake.
Any Video Converter / SUPER or others will convert one format to another. have a look in filehippo.com0 -

I did try Gordian Knot, but it was a bit demanding of me paying attention and needing to learn to use it. But so far, now that I switched to my faster laptop, it works reasonably quick, 10 mins to encode from dvd to mkv. SO I'm happy with that set up, on the desktop it was 2hrs to do one o.O I qued 4 in it to encode, and thought that it was 2hrs for them all but no, that was per.
The mkv to whatever, I'll explore that once I know a) if i got an android tablet, and b) if they just work as is.0 -
Heres something that might be of interest.

For dvds that DVD Decryptor can not rip, Ripit4me works very well. It works in conjunction with DVD Decryptor and can then send the file to dvd shrink.0

Ive just bought a few box sets of Spooks, as I am commuting to Ireland every week at the mo, and the plane journey is vvvvvvv boring.
I would like to watch on my iPod touch. How would I best do this? eg use handbrake or gordian to tip into what format, and then move where in itunes?

So, Ive ripped my DVD. It ended up in the program files folder even though I set the default folder as My Videos.
The file is 269Mb so looks reasonable, and I gave it a name of spooks_disc1 but there is no file extension, and when I try dropping it in films, it shows the "no entry" icon. When I double click on the file, it says "what do I want to open this file with".
What am I doing wrong?
