Hi
What are my consumer rights on a TV
I purchased a TV in Jan 11 from Argos and had to have a replacement in April 11, Once again it has broken down and have been offered a replacement or Exchange
However the exchange has to be of the same value. But there are non available at the same price so have been asked to pay the difference. Alternatively I have to have a brand new set of the same make which I am not happy about.
What are my rights, I have asked for compensation but been advised they will not offer me the difference between the old TV and an exchange

After a reasonable time has passed (which there is no doubt that it has in this instance), you can request one remedy over another - repair, replace or refund. However that refund can be partial to take into account use you have had of the item and for electrical items, it is not uncommon for it to depreciate by around 30-40% in the first year.
After 6 months from purchase, the onus is on the consumer to prove the fault is inherent. From the sounds of things, they haven't asked you to do this.
If they are offering the full value of the tv towards another tv, they are going above and beyond what they need to offer. While you can request one remedy, they can reject your request if your chosen remedy is disproportionately costly in comparison to the other remedies. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
