Keeping goods I didn't order specifically

Hi All.
I ordered an item worth about £200 from a European company, and was instead sent an item worth considerably more.
I’ve emailed the company and informed them (twice in fact).
I’ve also noticed that the stock/barcode sticker on the box they just sent me states that it is the item worth £200 and not the more expensive item, so I can only imagine the mistake was made by someone in the factory.
Obviously it would be nice to keep the expensive item..
Anyone know my legal rights here?
Thanks..

You don't have any rights to keep it as it was obviously sent in error. Although if I were you I'd have kept quiet
Legally you are supposed to inform them and keep the goods safe until they can collect them at *your* convenience and their expense.0 -
Ah, thanks. Do you know if there's a time limit within which they must get back to me? I only wander, since on their records, it must show that they sent the less expensive item, since the wrong stock sticker is on the box.
Also, what happens, for instance, if I were burgled? I have insurance for my equipment, but don't wish to add their item onto it at my expense?0 -
You are responsible for keeping it safe until they collect it. So it's your responsibility to store it adequately and safely - although if you did get burgled and provided a crime number, they might not do anything.
There isn't a time limit on how long they have to get back to you, as far as I know. They'd be entitled to either the item back or the items value from you for six years, I think - because of the Statute of Limitations.0 -
I'm not sure how enforceable any of the above is as you didn't buy it in the UK.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

I believe you are classed as an 'involuntary bailee'. I'm sure there is a procedure you can follow before being able to dispose of the goods and get rid of the duty of care you are under.0
