  • I agree with the earlier poster who said, to paraphrase, "a bank is a bank".

For me, having had £100 for joining, £150 for referring 3 other people, and the fact I had about 12 other current accounts at the time, the lure of another £100 was too much to resist!
I can see your point, I just think they're better than HSBC and much better than Santander.
Although a previous poster said you shouldn't need to call them, I now do it instead of secure messaging them or if I need to check my balance etc on the go.
I also like the fact you can call them any time day or night and have someone that is helpful and will sort things out for you (The latest/earliest I've called is 1:30am).

When my Co-Op incentive has been paid I'll have made £400 from the banks (Co-Op, FD & Santandar) + around £30 from the Halifax reward account.

You can get £50 for each person you refer up to a maximum of 3 per year.
It's under order items as recommend a friend, or call up and ask for a member get member pack.
They'll then send you an envelope with "recommended reading" in a big bold white font on the front which will contain a letter and 3 postcard referral forms.

    Have they relaxed the rules?

It's been 2 or 3 years since I was with them but I'm fairly sure it used to be 3 over your entire relationship with them?

Just re-read the form and I think you could be right :(
Could have sworn last years said per year.
  • I'm very interested in doing this. I'm with Santander at the minute and cheesed off that the costs for being in an overdraft are doubling. Therefore, I'm planning to transfer my OD onto a virgin money credit card and get it paid off in the next few months.

However, whilst the team are First Direct are transferring all of my details over, there'll be a lot of DD's coming out. How are they, if for example, a load of direct debits come out but my salary has yet to go in and it goes well over the £250 interest free portion....are they still going to charge me for that or are they going to be relaxed about it until everything is straightened out?
