I wouldn't like to be 18 again...

No in a financial sense anyway!

We had the unemployment statistics yesterday, we know about housing costs, we know about tuition costs, but today, a report from the AA states that car insurance is still shooting up because the rest of greedy society won't stop making whiplash claims.

Some insurers have simply changed policies and won't insure up to 21 year olds at all. For others that will, for a £1,000 car, it can cost £3,000 a year to insure it.

How on earth are younger people getting by!?

They're only 18 and already own a car?

Good grief, I never knew they were so well off.

In my experience if a young person insures as the main driver but adds their parents to the policy as named drivers then there are substantial savings. Not sure why.

Even then quotations are pretty eye-watering. They must be paying some pretty hefty proportion of their income in premiums.

I'd hazard a guess that the biggest proportion of uninsured drivers will be found in younger age groups.

I totally agree. A large proportion of accidents are caused by the 18-21 brigade so I can see a need for higher insurance costs. However, I just wish this would deter them from driving until they are older but sadly, I feel it just encourages them to drive uninsured, which is even worse. Not sure what the answer is.

I wouldn't be 18 again for lots of reasons. Though I wouldn't mind being 18 with what I have now and what I have learnt over the yrs. Being 18 would be kick-a$$ then! :p I pity 18 yr olds today, I don't see much of a good future in any way for them.

I would LOVE to be 18 again ........

I would become a winner MUCH sooner ........

The opportunities out there are fantastic for young people with the right attitude (and there are many of them).

Those who say they wouldn't like to be 18 again are simply acknowledging that they have learnt absolutely nothing since!!! They lack ambition and imagination .... lifes losers I think we call them?

  • my insurance is still high and I am in my 30's. but, compared to some younger people i know it is reasonable. third party should be set at a mandatory amount depending on age. it is the law that you have to have it - so it should be standard. if you want comprehensive, that is different.

also, i would make the official driving age 25. that would free up a lot of road space.

if they don't want to do that, no one under 25 should be allowed passengers (except for their own children if applicable and spouse) - as showing off or not concentrating is one of the biggest causes of accidents.

finally, not having insurance should be 10 years in prison. there is no excuse. currently, the fine is less than the insurance, and the ban doesn't mean anything to people who drive without insurance. unless there is a clear mistake (ie you have been fully insured for 10 years and you are caught without insurance 1 day after policy expires) then 10 years. I think it will be easy to see who is genuine and who just took the chance. anyway, such an excuse would only be acceptable for say 1 week. after that, tough luck.

Ha Ha! I normally like your posts, but this one, HA!

I assure you I am a success and in no way could anyone call me a loser LOL

I learnt from my mistakes when younger, I however, would not want to be 18 at this point in time due to how much harder it would be to become the success I am today, doing it all again.

You are fun to read! :p

You have the drive to succeed .... I tip my hat to you.
