Lloyds - PPI to be refunded but ...

My dad has a loan with lloyds at about 17k, a few years back they reduced his interest to about 2% and extended his term as he was struggling to make payments.
This was all done 'in house', no external companies. they have upheld a ppi complaint and will be refunding £9k.. Will they more than likely pay it off the loan? will my dad get anything back?

My dad finally got through to their help line they said as the loan is not in arrears he gets the money directly sent to him
It means they'll be able to move to better accommadation with heating that works. Living in our forever house!
