You don't want an electrician, you want a white goods repair person. Most independents will charge around £25-£40 for the call out and diagnosis.No free lunch, and no free laptop

You're right macman, that's what I think kwatt's link was, I didn't use the right language in my earlier post. I wish I was handy with this sort of stuff, could save myself a fortune, but don't want to risk doing it wrongly and ending up burning the house down because of a faulty appliance...0
