Housing Benefit Arrears

I got an overpayment on 2010 of £875 and notified them of this and agreed to repay at £75.00 per month, I paid one payment then never made any more as have never seemed to have the money but I do plan on paying it(graduate in aug and have a job so will def pay it then) anyway my husband may lose his job and we may need to claim housing benefit again......would they let us do this with this repayment debt.....I don't mind setting up another repayment but it would only be for a small amount as he will have no job??? Really worrying :(

i think i read on here that you can put a claim in and they cant make deductions from it due to it being a new claim but they will expect you to set up a payment plan for your arrears and stick to it.

If you start to receive housing benefit, any invoices against your name will automatically be re-activated - if you are not working, the weekly deductions are currently £10.20, but these rise (from memory, overpayments isn't my thing) to £15.20 or £22.40 per week if you are working depending on income. It is possible to negotiate these amounts downwards - some people only pay a fiver a week - but the size of the debt would be a factor in their willingness to accept lower payments.

I don't know whether this is good, bad or indifferent news to you, but it's the best I can do for now! If you have any questions, by all means PM me.

Thanks for the replies....it is good info as I do not have any problem paying it and those deductions seem fair x
