Switching from BT to Sky

Sky have offered me free line rental, E&W calls and caller display for a year. I am currently with BT with a £3 a month discount on line rental, which ends in March, and inclusive E&W calls. No idea why, but I have never considered moving from BT.
I have had a good hunt on this forum and found out quite a bit, but would like some opinions.
How good is the phone service from Sky and are they reliable?
It looks like 0845 numbers are not included in the call package, but are charged at 6.13p/min. Is this correct?
I use 18185 for daytime and international calls. I have just read that Sky block calls to this number. I have checked Sams Knows and my exchange is LLU for Sky BB. This could be a bit of a stumbling block.
Any thoughts on whether I should move and save about £175 this year or stick with the devil I know?

I like you had not moved from BT but have just signed up with O2 for home phone service (E + w/e) plus broadband and have got a good deal at £17.27 incl a month which when compared to BT £17+ and skys broadband at £17 is very good. There is also a 30 no penalty cancellation period + £30 cashback after that. Although not a O2 mobile user MIL is and have used her number to get the discount on the broadband!
However we do not have Sky in our exchange but O2 is and that was the deciding factor (talktalk was the other in there and that appears to be a no no on these forums). However I thought the LLU was regarding broadband and not the phone! Maybe someone techie can confirm or otherwise.
Price (we do a max of £4 inclusive of VAT calls a month coz use the mobile mostly) has been the driving feature on this move regarding line rental (on broadband we will get a quicker speed) and I don't see why we should not get a decent service, and will save over £200 a year to boot.
O2 do an anytime package that includes free calls for the day and to 22 international countries - that might suit you or try Uswitch and that might come up with a better deal with someone else!0 -
Oh and see the slash the home phone advice within the moneysaving pages!0

Any comments for or against Sky for phone service?0

I have Sky talk and have had no problems with it. With the package I have, I can phone any UK land-line for one hour any time of day and night for no extra charge. I can then cut off and ring back again as many times as I want.

Thanks for that. Do you know if you can use override numbers such as 18185 with Sky Talk?0

You cannot (although using their 0808 1 703 703 freephone gateway is still possible). Thanks for that. Do you know if you can use override numbers such as 18185 with Sky Talk?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Thanks for that.0
