Hi I posted this new thread last night and am worried that with no replies so far it'll get missed!! I'd be really grateful for some advice please. Thanks
Hi guys, I've decided to look into whether or not I could make a claim on missold PPI for a few loans & credit cards that I know I was paying insurance on a few years ago......but I'm worried I may not be eligible.
I ended up having to take out a secured loan on my home through first+ to settle all these debts. Looking through my paperwork, I did take copies of all the cheques I sent to the finance companies and do still have the account/agreement numbers.
All the accounts where settled by cheque on the 28th Feb 2006, almost 6 years ago.
Unfortunately I do not have the original finance agreements as I discarded these when I got the loan through from first+ to pay all my debt off.
Someone mentioned to me that given the accounts were all settled just under 6 years ago from todays date that I may have missed the boat on claiming missold PPI.....are they right?
I'd be really grateful for some clarity.
Many thanks
Gary

Hi Gary,
If you have the account/agreement numbers that is all you need and of course a reason for mis sell. Get filling in a questionnaire for each and get them posted off to the relevant banks by recorded delivery (keep copies for yourself). The 6 year time frame is the length of time that banks have to hold records. You have the account numbers so no problem, good luckSuccesses

Hi Dilus, thanks for the advice.
My concern is I'm only 3 to 4 weeks away from the 6 years since I settled all these accounts. Ive been reading the steps you got to take and have prepared all the letters requesting a copy of my agreements (used the template letter on MSE) but am concerned that they may drag their responses on for a few weeks then the 6 years will have elapsed and it'll be nigh on impossible to claim?
Am I worrying over nothing, should I not send the letter requesting my agreements and just go straight to the questionnaire you refer to?
Thanks again.

If I were you I would get the questionnaires sent off, at least they will be logged before you get to the 6 years. You should get acknowledgement letters back to say they are investigating your complaints. If you try getting your original agreements that will delay things further. You have the ace cards "the account numbers" so get the ball rolling. If they come back saying they have no records of them you can argue that 6 years is not up. Keep a tally of all dates involvedSuccesses

That is brilliant, thank you sooo much!!
I hope you don't mind me asking for some more advice? As I've said earlier, I settled all the loans nigh on 6 years ago so some of them could have been taken out up to 10 or more years ago. I cannot remember what they would have asked on the phone when I applied for the finance so I don't know what to say on the questionnaire with regards to if I was asked did I have a medical condition (which I did) or was I employed ( I may have said i was when i was in fact self employed but too scared to say this incase it jeopardised my application). They were dark days I'm afraid!!! Sorry.
The questionnaire then asks why I'm complaining about the insurance....is there a generic response for this?
Thanks again, I really do appreciate this.

Any sections where you are not sure what to put, leave blank, don't feel that you have to write something in if you are not sure of what was actually said at the time, you could state that you had a prior medical condition but can't remember being asked about it, same with the employment situation, some policies DID cover the self employed. As to why you are complaining, that is completely down to you there is no generic reply. The fact remains that the PPI was added purely to make more profit for the bank and that's not right or fair! Especially if you didn't ask for itSuccesses

Hi
I'm filling out the questionnaires but am still a bit worried about the employment question. These loans were so long ago that I cannot recall if I would have said employed or self employed on the credit application. If I say I was Self Employed (on the PPI Questionnaire) but they prove that on the application form I filled in years ago that I said I was employed, will that jeopardise my PPI claim? As I posted earlier, unfortunately I recall saying I was employed on a few applications so as not to jeopardise my application for finance when I applied for these loans years ago.
Stressful or what!!!
Thanks0 -
Hi
Depending on how long ago it was, maybe you could get in touch with the HMRC/Inland Revenue and they may hold the details of any employment etc.
Maybe worth giving them a call by giving them your national insurance number.
Good luck. The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

There are loads of different reasons why you may have felt it was mis-sold....
You do not HAVE to fill in a questionaire to lodge a complaint. With the three PPI reclaims I have been successful with, a letter was sufficient, and at no point did I mention any employment status.
(I do not endorse the falsification of application forms by the way, but you do not have to spill all the info up front to start the complaint off!!!!!)0
