British Gas - DD Increases

Does anyone have any knowledge on how British Gas work out how much my direct debits will cost each month?

I received notification today that my monthly DD for my Electricity will be increasing to £47 to £52. I thought, oh dear must be a fair bit in debit.

So had a look at my most recent bill issued on 17/01/2012 for the period of 15/10/2011 - 11/01/2012 and it confirms I have a debit of only £7.30. Also note it confirms the balance on my last statement was £13.16 in debit so it has gone down since the last bill even with my current DD's.

Naturally come winter my account tends to go into debit by a small amount but builds up again in the summer. I also have £190 credit on my Gas account with them. Ironically they increased my Gas DD last year as it was in debit of around £20 over the winter time. Now my account is building up money all year round as opposed to just summer time.

I recently got one of those new meters put in which has the wireless connection (not sure what you call them). So unsure if this is having any sort of impact?

I would call up and have a moan but for £5.00 a month its hardly worth spending hours on hold.

J

It will depend on when your yearly assessment date is. At this point you should break even. As it is checked at 6 monthly intervals remember there was a price increase last year and this may also impact on the amount you pay. It may be this is the first assessment after that increase.

You can manage your DD amount fromt the British Gas website - you can also see when your yearly assessment date is.

I only recently discovered that Smart Meters have remote kill switches, the roll out should be halted until assurances that the feature will be disabled.

The whole process of reminders and visits will still take place. The suppliers that are using the smart meters have signed up to this. The only difference will be the change from credit to pp will be able to be done remotely. This will possibly means the customer is charged less as there will be no need for Locksmiths.
