That's not the problem though, for some reason HMRC think you have another source of income.

Was there nothing else in 2010-11 income wise?
No, nothing else. Wish there was;)

I suspect an error which can be sorted over the phone so don't lose any sleep until you have spoken to them.

It looks to me like a company car benefit...
Hopefully yes. Would hope they haven't made the blunder with the car as that was years ago I had that

In which case the deduction would have been describes as car benefit.

You'll just need to keep trying on the phone. Unfortunately with the tax return deadline looming the phones will be very busy.

Oh, forgot to say I had another letter with it saying my tax code was BR. Basic rate? Wouldn;t this indicate that my income a far as they are concerned is less than £34370?

No....it certainly implies that they think you have 2 jobs though.

The notices of coding should state which employer they relate to - are they the same?

Well, it's like I said earlier. HMRC has you down as having 2 employments, both with the same employer. This can happen for a number of reasons - your employer files your end of year return under a different works number from the previous year.

You need to phone and tell them you have one employment and they will delete the other and a correct tax code will be issued.
