Hi,
I'm trying to hook up my macbook to my TV (a 60inch LG full HD) so I can watch my movies through it, I bought a minidv to hdmi cable from ebay and have a brilliant picture but have no sound through it? I then bought a headphone jack to Audio (red and white) and tried that but that doesn't work either! What am I doing wrong? How do I get sound?

What mac book do you have? only the ones produced in the last 2 years have Audio on the HDMI connection.
If you do you'll have to change the audio output to Digital HDMI rather than analogue.
If you have an older Macbook then double check the audio settings.Laters

OK everyone STOP with codecs and TVs.
The macbook has a Mini DVI out. This doesn't carry sound!
OP do you have a surround sound amp or anything? You've got the picture right, but you want to EITHER:
add a digital (if supported) or analogue 3.5mm headphone jack into the headphone socket of the Mac, and then into either an optical or phono input on the amp, as you've attempted on the TV.
OR if you don't have an amp, you need to have a look at the back of your TV and look for a PC input - DVI preferably (rectangle) or VGA (blue). Using one of these, plus a PC sound input on your TV (phono or 3.5mm) will let you use the sound from the Mac.
Your current problem is that with HDMI, the TV is assuming it's getting sound and pic through it, so doesn't offer any other inputs.0
