Car door bashed in, MOT failure?

Hi all.

Just wondering:

A couple of months ago, someone reversed into the side of my car, bashing in the drivers door. As whoever did this didn't leave a note (surprise, surprise!) I can't do much about it, I did ask my insurance company who said they'd fix it but happily put my premiums up next year for the privilidge.

Anyway, the door still opens, locks fine etc, however the window only winds down half way. Is this a MOT failure? I could have the door fixed/replaced but I am loathed to do it as I have a 1999 Peugeot 206 petrol 1.1 at 130,000 miles and the thing has cost me alot of money recently and even more loathed as it wasn't my fault!

Cheers

Stu

No, cosmetic damage is not an MOT failure.

I think its ok as long as there are no Sharp edges or bits you can catch your hand on if you run it across the door.

Thanks. No sharp edges etc. Looks a bit hideous but that's it's only crime. Of course, this is all dependent it passes it's MOT - if not then it won't matter!

Have you tried removing the door trim inside and pushing the door panel out? the door won't be perfect but the window might work better.

It may also be possible to apply some sort of suction on to the door to pull the dent out a bit.

That's what I would do too, door card off, peek off the horrible black gunk and sound deadening of there is any, close door make some room and apply steady pressure with yer foot. When this doesn't work just kick it. Will probably pop out a bit if its a big dent, if you care enough a rubber mallet used gently will sort some of the smaller dent/creasing too. It wont look pretty, will look like someone has kicked a dent back out from the other side...but still better than it is currently

If it passes the mot and you feel the need, a 206 door is cheap and there are plenty about. They're easy to swap over too
