Not really a loophole. Just makes it much harder to chase/enforce :).

Not harder. Impossible. Nobody will cross countries over 70pounds.

    They made a mistake.
    You still owe them money.
They, or their debt collectors, have six years to collect it, adding on their fees as they go.

    You decide.

Pssst... the word is emigrating. ;)

I guess the real problem is I'm pretty sure the 'final bill' we got was actually our final bill and I think they're just trying to get more money out of us. Especially as other people I know have had this issue of Scottish Gas charging bills that weren't accurate/even correct.

Thanks for the correction, if I may ask, what's the correct usage then on Immigration/Emmigration?

Then they was wrong, and the it wasn't infact a final bill.

Their mistake doesn't change the fact you used to service and have to pay for that usage.

Pay up, you won't find loopholes to avoid paying a legitimate bill.

I'm not trying to avoid a legitimate bill. I have a really hard time trusting the company with all the mistakes they've already made, including a previous refund they 'forgot' to send to us until we heckled them.

Immigration = The action of coming to live permanently in a foreign country.

Emigration = The action of leaving a country to live in another country.

Then check the final readings on the new bill and check it looks right. Not sure what all the fuss is about tbh, seems like a straight forward solution

Not harder. Impossible. Nobody will cross countries over 70pounds.

After a few years it'd probably be sent to small claims (along with interest + collection agency fees), a default judgement will be issued (as they will issue it at your last known address) then your newly destroyed credit report will follow you around for years to come.
  • I pay for my gas & leccy monthly by direct debit (to Southern Electric), but they generate a bill/statement every quarter that I can check online. The other suppliers should do the same, and perhaps even post it to you if you haven't gone for the fully online option.

Thank you for your kind and informative information. I'll check with my husband. We've never received a bill, so I assumed we didn't get one, but there could very well be something online as the account is in his name. :)

OP if you go back to my post #2 which was clarified in post #9 and work from there you will be able to ascertain whether you owe them the money or not.

If you do owe them, pay them, if you feel you don't talk to them and sort it out.
