parking ticket

hi all new to the site and am looking for help.

i parked today in a sainsburys retail park there there are about ten shops in total all using the same car park.
The car park is manages by "Town & city parking LTD" the car park is free for two hours and then no return for a further two hours. i parked there for 2hours and 10 mins. and have got a "parking charge notice" for £60 reduced to £30 if paid within 10 days.

i have done alot of reading on this and and people are saying not to pay as it is not enforceable. now i know i stayed over by 10 mins but £30 for tens mins seems abit steep as there was about 1/4 of the car park empty when i returned to my car. any help and idea will be appreciated.
thanks

No. Don't pay. You have received an invoice inviting you to enrich the company. Do not appeal. It is a waste of time/envelope/stamp. Be prepared for several more letters some with red ink. Read the stickies in the parking forum to re-assure yourself. If you feel the need to communicate with anyone then write to the manager of Sainsbury's using some or all of the following words disgrace/leech/crooks/blot on the face of society/won't shop at your store in future.

But that's the way car parks work (public and private). Silly charges for a little bit over. I had a similar penalty for a few minutes over in a council car park. I think morally - even if it isn't legally enforceable - you accepted the terms and conditions when you made use of the facilty. The other side of it is that people overstaying reduces the parking for the rest of us.
I'll probably be the only person saying this but I think if people don't agree with the terms of what is a free 2 hour parking facilty they should use a standard pay and display.

What a load of rubbish ....

A council car park is totally different to a private car park .... there is no legal basis for the private company to charge you .... I don't see why it is morally bad for people not to pay stupid over the top charges!!!

    You are a moron!

Arron9999 - Don't pay and studiously ignore any further demands from these scammers and their fake debt collectors and solicitors. Its all a ruse to scare you into paying up.

Have a shufty round the parking board for plenty of advice about this firm and I'm pretty certain they are featured in the letter chain sticky, so you will see what toilet paper to expect. :)
