C-Media AC97 driver

I have a code 10 error for a C-Media AC97 Audio Device.
I have tried to download an up to date driver but get these
programs that scan your PC and then ask for money for new
drivers.Is there anywhere that would have free drivers that I
could download.

Why not go to the C-Media website at http://www.cmedia.com.tw/EN/index.aspx They have all the drivers available to download without all that driver detective rubbish.

You'll need the model number of the sound card, I presume it's an on-board one?

Always Google the company, that's what I did to get that link: just Googled <C-Media>

using info from device manager this will tell you the make/model you need for any troublesome driver
