Writing to companies for free work?

I remember seeing on a restoration program that they wrote to companies to do the work for free as a means of training/advertising.

obviously i know this is probably because it is on a TV program,

but has anyone ever tried it?

People will do stuff for free on TV for the exposure, if you canget your project on the telly you might have a chance....

indeed - you will only get work for free is you can offer something of value in return... what were you thinking of offering?

Its hard enough getting someone out to give you an estimate round here let alone do the work for free.
I think you'll be sadly disappointed to be honest but I wish you luck.

What the OP needs to do, is marry in to my family and then I am expected to do everything for free
