Just an update for everyone!.. The installer called in today & completed the commissioning benchmark checklist, including name, address, ID no & signature so it was a false alarm after all :-).

He said he genuinely thought he'd completed it.

I've just got to call Vaillant to register the warranty (he said he sent the card off but obv never got there or theyre running behind) & I've got to ring LA to notify them of it.

So false alarm after all that worry! Thanks for everyones help though it just reminds me (and hopefully others) how careful to be before handing over cash.

Hi: just curious why are you calling the LA to notify them as your RGI should be notitfying his installation....more here (specifically the 3 paragraphs above the disclaimer).

Did you see his GSR ID card? Did he actually conduct any tests for commissioning before he completed the Benchmark?

Just want to make sure that this will be the end of the farce for you.

  • Absolutely gutted...his gas no. not on the GSR website.

He told me I needed to notify LA.

He showed OH card & he noted down numbers (i was at work).

OH said he literally filled in the book, apologised & left.

    Feel an idiot.
  • Report him asap. He is dangerous. The numbers on the Gas Safe ID card change every year for this reason, so installers who either don't pay their subs or fail their courses will have an invalid ID number. The commissioning tests to make sure the boiler is safe and to fill out the benchmark book take quite a while to complete and involve special machinery/probes etc. You need to get a RGI out NOW to make sure all is safe.
