BSOD on XP boot up

Hi need to try and fix my mum's laptop. It's showing a BSOD on every start up so never makes it to the Windows desktop.

Running Windows XD, which was pre installed so no disk.

Message on BSOD is

***x stop
0X000000ED
C0X853DAB58
0XC000006
0X00000000
0X00000000

Any ideas, already tried resore to last good session or something similar to that (can't remember the exact wording).

Thank you.

Have a look at this answer. It doesn't seem like good news...

Good advice -if the chkdsk tells you that there are bad sectors, you will probably need to replace the hdd. Further you could try the fixmbr and/or the fixboot commands in the recovery console. However I suspect that you may well need a new hdd.

    Good luck
  • i assume pressing F8 a lot during startup and trying safe mode also doesn't work?
    Friendly greeting!

I pressed it once and tried to start in safe mode and that didn't help. Will try numerous presses tonight. Thank you.

XP was pre loaded on machine so no disc. I may have another XP disc here that I don't use now but the licence key would be different from the installed version. Would that work?

Packard Bell... Not sure on the model but it's pretty old. Will see if there is a model number tonight.

Any XP disk would work for getting into the recovery console.

Thanks will it be a case of just following on screen instructions then?

I put the disc in laptop and then re-boot is that correct?
