I would personally recommend taking it to a Metro Bank if there is one close to you. You do not need to have a bank account with them to use the machine and it is completely FREE and the staff are super friendly! :j
  • I can confirm that Halifax will only take £5-worth bagged up. However, if you are paying into a children's account there is no limit.

I recently cashed mine in at Natwest. They don't have any limits as long as you have an account with them.

The coins do have to be counted and bagged though.

    I cashed in over £70!

My local post office have never complained about any bagged up change I've paid in to my Co-op current account. Have paid in over £100 in bagged change a few times.

I also use my local post office, and then ask them for replacement bags afterwards. I'm in there quite regularly though with my ebay sales so they do know me, perhaps they may not if they didn't...

  • HSBC and Natwest banks dont mind how many full bags that you take in in one go. Most of the other banks only allow up to 5 bags at a time to be cashed in.

  • I'm liking the idea of putting them in the self-serve tills! I collect coppers and cash them in once a year - the bank will give you a handful of coin bags if you ask - you then need to count them out into £1 per bag (copper) or £5 per bag (5p and 10ps) and they have a machine to weigh them at the counter - so if you have a few spare coins it's worth taking them in your pocket in case any of your bags are one or two short.

Last time I went to Barclays with £20 worth and they said they would only take £10 on one day but I could "come back tomorrow with the other £10" - they soon let me deposit it all though when I said "Sod that, I'm not carrying this lot around any longer, I'll take it to Nationwide down the road..." :D

  • Just a note on the self service tills, these do tend to jam up if you put alot of change into them, so just take a little bit every time you go shopping.

Otherwise you'll have to call the assistant over and explain how you broke the machine by trying to pay for £20's worth of shopping all in coppers. It's embarrassing, believe me, I speak from experience.
