You can do no worse than ask your bank for some money bags next time you are in, they may give you half a dozen or so if you explain what you are doing it for, might even get a couple more if you show them a photo of the full money jar! Then when you pop back with the full bags, ask for some more.
Just be careful when filling the bags that the correct amount is in them because it's very easy to find out if a bag is a penny down by weighing it (if banks still use this method).0 -
I think if the bank know you and you go in when they're not busy there's more chance they'll take bags of change off you.
There are some banks that have the machines similar to those in the supermarkets, but don't charge you to deposit the cash.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

You cant just take the jar in, you have to bag it up first.
Remember lots of banks will only take up to a certain amount each time. I think its £5 at the Halifax
Ask when you go in for the bags.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Some HSBC branches have a machine where you empty your coin jar into it and it counts and adds the money to your account. No need to count it out first or sort it into types or amounts. We use it for our son's account. Works very well.0

try asking a local shop keeper to see if they can change it as swapping cash for 2p &1p at the bank as a business account owner can cost quite a lot if you do it often! My local butchers take mine and are always glad I asked!0

If you get bags at your bank and bag them up - just ask if they have any restrictions on the number of bags you can take in - i think ours limits us to 5 bags. Also, you must be certain you don't have any mixed coins in the bags ie. all 5p OR 10p not both.
Hope this helps, regards, moggy

At my local Tesco they have a machine where you put all your loose change in and you get a voucher for the equivilent amount to use against any shopping you do in the store. You dont have to give them a percentage for doing it either from what i can remember.
Ive got a full purse of 5ps that i need to cash in. My purse weighs a ton but i keep forgetting to use the facility when i go.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
