Transaction taken without my consent

Hi, I have just had my car insurance take two transactions. One for the monthly instalment and a £65 charge as they say they have cancelled my policy and that the monthly charge was for last month that wasn't paid. I have called my bank and they say they cannot re call the £65 as it was taken using my card details (which I gave when I set the policy up 12 months ago). What are my rights and what can I do about this unapproved transaction?:(

But it is not unapproved. You gave them your approval to charge your card when you entered into the insurance contract.
Are you saying you don't owe them the money?
  • Hi noh,

I did, but they have taken the outstanding payment and then the extra £65. I only gave them my card details when I set up the policy last January when paying the deposit to open it as you have to.
  • I think you will find if you read the T&Cs carefully that by accepting the policy (i.e. by not cancelling it within the cooling off period) then you are effectively authorising the transactions.
I am employed as a manager in a financial services institution. My views are entirely my own.
