It is indeed, and bad news for those losing a job.
Still, I'm sure there will be a vulture somewhere salivating at the thought of picking up a cheap house.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Obviously borrowing too much to buy expensive houses didnt contribute to the problem.0 -

Obviously, it's impossible to pay any sort of mortgage on JSA. The size is not of much relevance when your income is virtually zero.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

The real disgrace in all this.
At least the politicians have got excellent ideas on how to get this one sorted.

Give it a rest. On a par with you wanting FTB to get into even more debt to own a home0 -

tough times out there undoubtedly
i would guess this is largely down to employers trimming down and distributing junior roles and responsibilities to their more experienced staff whom it would be more costly to get rid of via redundancy'Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.'

If the house had cost less, they may have been able to put away enough savings to cover themselves for a while.0 -

Just to make the point, the ONS doesn't count every unemployed person, they do a survey. 0.1% is about the margin for error so most likely unemployment is somewhere between flat and up 250,000.
Just to muddy the waters even more, most of the really bad economic news in the past few years has come in the northern winter. There is some evidence to suggest that is skewing seasonal adjustment so things appear better than otherwise now and worse in the summer.0
