Shopacheck?!

Options
Received a letter yesterday from Shopacheck. Two of their hard drives containing personal data have gone missing and my information was on it. They are very sorry and this will not happen again and are taking steps to ensure the information doesn't get used blah blah blah...

Who the hell are Shopacheck?!

They claim it's something to do with a loan application back in 2010. I don't remember applying for anything with that name at all. I'll call them back when I get in obviously, but for now was wondering if anyone knows if they work for any other company (e.g. Vanquis)? A quick Google search says they provide cash loans but I really don't remember this at all. Are they a standalone company?

Hmmm, once you call them you might just get added to another database, I think I would be ignoring it tbh. Nothing you can really do anyway. It could aslo just be phishing.

Edit:- Looks like a payday loan company.

Someone applying in your name? Think I would still ignore.

I have to say I thought it was phishing too. I definitely haven't applied for any payday loans, though I can't remember if I got desperate enough to consider it and then abandon the application halfway through. You do make a very good point about being added to another database, though that sounds very sneaky. I think I'll take your advice and ignore it, I've been known under a different name for a while now anyway.
  • I did a bit more digging and found this. Looks like they did actually lose data.

They're owned by Cattles Group and someone on another forum mentioned that they're affiliated with Welcome Finance, Provident and Vanquis. I did make a half-a**ed application for a Vanquis CC ages ago but never actually got round to completing the process so it makes more sense.

    Still not calling them though.

They have been around for years (I stand to be corrected) but they were doorstep lenders in those days when we still had an empire. So are probably OK to contact.

    Shopacheck still are doorstop lenders.
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.
