Average monthly (Just)Electricity cost for a Studio Apartment?

I'm wondering what is the average cost (monthly) for just electricity for a studio apartment.

Just had my (2nd)bill come through and it cost me £49 for 3 months. Is this good? What is the average monthly for just Electricity?

My first bill had a massive discount promo so i can't take that bill as reference.

The apartment is quite brand new aswell. I'm paying roughly about 475pm for rent. So trying to weigh up the cost of Electricity against the quality/type of apartment i'm living in..

One person living in it..just me.

I'm assuming you are heating with gas?

Electricity is measured in kWhrs by the meter not ££s, so get a handle on your consumption by taking daily meter readings for a week.

You cannot get meaningful advice here by quoting "£49" because you don't state whether that is based on an acutal or estimated meter reading.

Judgeing your power use by the amount you pay isn't the way to do it - What counts is the number of Kwh, (MeterUnits), a year that you are billed for.

That 1st Bill with the discount, will state how many Kwh you used - add this to the Kwh on the 2nd bill and you have your power use history since you moved in, then keep on adding it bill by bill till you have 12 months history

How is the property heated and hot watered? If all-electric are you on an E7 tariff? What tariff are you on?
You need to give the basic info in order to get advice.
There is no meaningful average. Some people have the heating on 25C 24/7. Others are out all day ad most evenings and like it at 17C.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • No. No GAS at all. Completely Electricity!

I work 9 - 6 daily. I try to save electricity though and not use that much. Yes i have a hot water boiler but water is paid for separately.

    On standard tariff..with NPower

Even nightly i don't open all my lights, only one set that is enough for me and light bulbs are the dim - energy saving ones.
I have spot lights configured but they are always off as i know they're expensive. Although i do use the following electrical appliances frequently:

    washing machine (1 per/week)
    oven (3 times a week)
    hob cooker (daily)
    kettle (daily)
    hot water boiler (daily)
    TV (daily)
    ..

    that's basically it really

But the electricity to heat it is not...you have an immersion heater (not a hot water boiler).
How do you heat the property?
Forget TV and lights, it's hot water and space heating that burns most of your power.
    What tariff-E7 or single rate?

  • Space heater is installed but since i moved in (summer) i haven't had to use it at all. During winter period it wasn't that cold and i can withstand the cold by wearing extra layers and not turning on the heater. Plus i was out of the country on holiday over xmas/new year.

even now..its chilly but a few wooly jumpers and a jacket can keep me warm.

    think i'm on single-rate.

So, since you don't use the heating in the winter (apparently) your bills will be extremely low. £49 is about 500kWh-that is peanuts for a quarterly bill, assuming it is based on actual and not estimated readings.
You'd probably be better of on a NSC tariff, if not already on it.

    OK, we're getting there, slowly:)

Care to post some meter readings, in particular whether your bill was estimated or actual.

I don't like "average" talk in specific circumstances, but your "£49 in 3 months" is incredibly low. I am reluctant to believe that it can be based on actual readings.

    Yes on actual readings.

    Wow £49 for 3 months considered low..great!
