Unsure if I can reclaim PPI on Barclay Card

Just wanted to know if I can claim PPI on a Barclay card that was paid off in 2010. The reason I ask the question is because the Barclay card is not in my name. It is in the name of my girlfriend’s father.
I found out a year ago that my girlfriend’s father was in debt to the tune of £9,000 on his Barclay card. I only found out when my girlfriend open his letters while he was in hospital. I paid off the bill at once using our savings. I have of course been hearing about PPI success case, but I do not have the paperwork and every time I ask my gf dad he gets very upset. I do not want to upset him further as he needs to focus on chemo and I certainly do not want any of the money back, but it would be nice to get a bit back and put it into a saving account for him for future use. So the question is, is it worth pursuing using the letter templates from the forum?
Thank you in advance for your help

No, you cannot claim for someone without having been given proper authority by the claimant.0
