Those with budget under £3k, how is it broken down?

Hi, I'm trying to stick to a £3k budget but not sure on breakdown of figures. Our reception with food and drinks is coming in at £1000, the church is £600. Thats half my budget already!! Photographer I want coming in at around £600. That leaves £800 for dress, 3 bridesmaids, mens suits, flowers, rings, decorations/favours, cakes and invitations. It's not possible is it?? :(

  • I don't know f this is any use, but my sister wanted to do something similar to you her photographer was a friend and she got her dresses online - her own dress off ebay for £70. I took a while for delivery but that was because it came from china but she looked so lovely.
    She also ordered one bridesmaid dress but from another website were the dresses were about £50 each but looked lovely. Although, she got sent and charged for two and they wouldn't take it back or give her a refund. Ended up getting the bridesmaid dress from debenhams special occasions section in the sale - looked fantastic. In the end, i think she ended up spending under 3K.

    Our will be about £500ish

    I know as a bride i should want it to be a special day.

    This is my second wedding btw and the first one was on a budget

    Dress £150 inc taxes and vat import stuff, tailor maid to me. (china)
    Mini bus £60 the wedding is in bath, bad for parking, none of this not see the bride before the wedding bit, no limo etc. (blindfold the groom if we have to)
    Wedding cake £60 budget M&S

    We don't have the money to splash and we both agree that we don't want to go into debt just for a few hours.

    Our wedding is about us, with a few family and friends. It's not how we can out do the Jones.

    My cousin spent 25k last year, even had UB40 at the wedding do as the band, they didn't have the money before, will spend years paying that off, they have already split up........ was it worth it.

    our friends are helping by doing things for the wedding, that's instead of gifts.

    and for those that still insist on getting us something, because we have 2 of everything already we have set up a B & Q wedding list, so people can put money in for us to do some DIY on our home. 2 year old new build that needs painting now, fill in the gaps now the building has settled down.

  • Hello
    My wedding was in 2007, and my total spend was £1800 (yes I know costs have gone up but still some ideas might be worth a try :))
    The dress I wore was an Ebay buy (the first was a BHS order but I turned up to collect my dress and it was covered in bright red lipstick :mad: new? my behind! The second was a dodgy ebay buy - made to order but the delicate tulips turned up as purple forget me nots :mad:) So I ordered a dress from a bridal shop that was closing down on Ebay, got my gorgeous dress with jaket for £99 including delivery :D it fitted well and looked stunning.

    Shoes were my downfall, I bought the shoes I wanted straight away and paid £50 at BHS (they were in the sale a week later at £30 but never mind, they were worth the money!)
    Bridesmaids dress I bought was £5 from Ebay :D (2nd hand but already dry cleaned and perfect! she didn't wear it though as she lied about her weight :( and it was too small)
    Bridesmaids shoes £8.50 Ebay - new in box!
    Wooden roses for my bouquet - £10
    Cake was a gift - but cost my Sis £30 from tesco
    Cake topper - Circle of love figurine £20ish
    Ribbon for cake £6
    Wedding car - freebie Best Man drove us in his Audi :cool: and he dolled it up with ribbon for us
    Reception cost us £30 for room hire and £300 for outside catering (evening do) and £90 for a sandwhich buffet lunch (Subway delivered and it was lush!)
    Plates and cuttlery £15 for 24 of us from Ikea (still have and use my lovely wedding plates!)
    Suit for groom £100 from M and S
    Tie for bestman and groom £7 each from an outlet
    Decs cost about £40 (gas cannister from Asda, balloons and weights)
    Live band - £350 but they were awsome.
    I think thats about it...
    As you have already paid for your venue I thin the rest is definately achivable on your budget. Try places like Tesco (party favour boxes and bubbles for the tables) Ebay and poundshops all have had useful bits in. Just remember to keep one eye on wedding stuff and shop around!
    Good luck x

    I think it is possible. Monsoon have bridal dresses or try on line for bargains. Ask your bm's to wear dresses they have (in matching colours) then get matching accessories. Cakes, make your own or ask someone to provide one in lieu of a gift. Or get plain ones from shops and decorate with ribbon and flowers. Flowers, get 2nd hand silk ones or real ones, ask florist for basic ones or order wholesale. Have you negotiated with your venue and photographer?
    Also, post all items you want on here, there is always someone who can find cheaper alternatives!

    We are looking at a 4pm wedding, so only having an evening reception which is £1500 for 60 guests including hot buffet and DJ.

    We are using stones from the beach as place settings, and our centre pieces are stones, shells and sand (sounds naff but hopefully will turn out better)

    Save the Date and Invitation are via email and we have a website with all the information on.

    No transport needed as we will either walk from wedding ceremony venue to reception or get a list with guests.

    OH will just wear trousers he already has.

    Wedding dress I have seen and fallen in love with is £600, but will wait until very last minute to see if it comes down in price or I will just buy a dress from the likes of Coast ect no more than £200.

    We wouldn't have flowers.

    I really want a photobooth but we are doing our own, so I've set aside £50 for items.

    A picture frame for everyone to sign - £20.00
    Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

    Its Benjamin Roberts 5011 in ivory. I've posted before for people to try and find it cheaper with no look :(. I have requests on Preloved and other sites too. regularly check ebay etc ha ha ha. You name it, i've tried it.

    The good thing is I have loads of time to look and pray it goes into a sale somewhere. I am always emailing stockists - to the point I hope they give me it reduced to stop me sending emails :rotfl:

    Ever hopeful though :j

    Do able.

    Mine came in at £2,700.

    Some costs of mine were:

    * Registrar - £365
    * Notice to marry - £67
    * Certificates - £17 (we had a commentrative one done for £10)
    * Venue - £300 (got married & had reception here)
    * Food - £420 (buffet menu for 25 guests & 3 flavours of mini tubs of ice cream to go with cupcake wedding cake)
    * Dress - £90 , 1/2 price in Monsoon sale
    * Invitations - £27 (Over kill of 40 invites as invited 30 people and had 10 spare to send to relatives back home as keep sakes)
    * Cake - £51.48 (bought all the little bits for it, like cupcake casings and ribbon etc) Cake was then made by my fab friend. 40 cupcakes and a 6 inch top tier cake for us to bring home with 'us' as the wedding topper in editable icing. She matched us up completely in our wedding outfits
    * Table decorations - £39.64 (5 50p ikea vases, 5 teal gerbras, pearl, clear and teal beads for bottom of vases, pearl butterfly to wrap around flower)

    FREE: My wedding cake (besides the decoration part), wedding car (gift from my husbands uncle), veil, two wedding photographers (1 from a company, 1 my mother in laws friend)

    CHEAP: The best photographer, £50 for whole day as she was honoured to be doing her 1st wedding shoot and just wanted experience. She was fab, best photos captured.

    I noted down everything to do with my wedding, so my total cost includes craft items that I added onto our invites, to our thank you cards I made for our guests, as well as the thank you gifts for our parents and wedding party. As well as my keep sake box and photo albums etc. EVERYTHING, lol.

    I am pleased with what we spent as our friends who got married in November 2010 spent loadssss and they have just now separated. I know no one knows what is around the corner, but of course when everyone gets married they never think it will be short lived.
