Well the blob eye scooby comes in on budget (maybe even an STI for that price?). Don't tempt me!

Do it - you will love it. I am suprised mine doesn't cost as much too run as people made out it would, it's not too much more to fuel or insure than the Type R. (I think you have to run the STI's on super unleaded though and mine has been remapped for more BHP and fuel economy - I am a girl though so I don't fully understand all that stuff)

Would be in my imaginary garage as well. Watched many youtube videos of them, beautiful inside and out and bloomin' quick. If only I was handier with the spanners!

Yeah loved them since I first saw one on my very first driving lesson, blasting past me, with me gaping in awe while I bounced in to the curb! Quite like the 3.2l alfa GTV's too, but you'd need to buy a refinery too.

That's a good point and got me thinking about the Alfa 147 GTA, a rare beast which I've always adored (especially with the quad exhaust pipes!) Have just checked pistonheads and these can be had for this kind of money!

I would go find the best integra you can for the money and buy it (you'll need to be patient). Alternatively have a serious think about a 182 as they're cracking little cars. Non hot hatchbacks but along the same lines as integra - fiat coupe (20v turbo), fto v6 (manual only please), s14a can all be had well under your budget and will give any standard mk5 gti, focus st etc something to think about

Yeah I'd love an 147 GTA, in red of course!
Other stuff maybe not considered, and maybe not strictly hatchbacks, and maybe not strictly 7 secs 0-60 (but that's not everything!):
Toyota Celica, with a 190 engine instead of the 140 - you have to rev the nuts off it for the extra power
Mazda RX8 - 20mpg, but really fast and surprisingly practical. Do your research or you'll end up with a dead engine.
BMW 330 E46 coupe or saloon
    Skoda Fabia vRS
Not sure if there are any Seat Leons that are quick enough for under £5k.

    Cupra R - will give a mk5 gti a hiding.

Forgot about the 330ci, cracking cars. Taking that to the extreme a £5k e36 M3 would be no shed nowadays.

I've driven a 147 GTA - absolutely great car, the torque steer nonsense that was banded about with regards to it was just that, nonsense. I found it a joy to drive and it sounded absolutely brilliant. Don't even remember it being too bad on fuel considering I had it for a day and didn't give it a minutes peace.
  • now i was looking at the same kind of stuff. and ended up buying a volvo 2.9 twin turbo T6 and had it remapped. 0-60 about 6.8 (stock is 7) and 306 bhp, 460 Nm

i took a few skylines and gto's out for a run, and the volvo blew me away! and its buttons to insure. a real sleeper car
  • I've been looking at all these cars myself. The Megane's stand out in what you get for your money but after reading up on them here: http://www.meganesport.net/community/showthread.php?43438-Used-RS-megane-quick-reference-buying-guide. , it would have to be an R26 F1 model with the LSD for me but they are fetching the same money as MkV Golf Gti's which is the sensible choice really.
If you're not bothered about a better diff then an early 225 is a good buy, can be had for £4k.
