Can I claim for misselling of PPI?

Hi guys, I've decided to look into whether or not I could make a claim on missold PPI for a few loans & credit cards that I know I was paying insurance on a few years ago......but I'm worried I may not be eligible.
I ended up having to take out a secured loan on my home through first+ to settle all these debts. Looking through my paperwork, I did take copies of all the cheques I sent to the finance companies and do still have the account/agreement numbers.
All the accounts where settled by cheque on the 28th Feb 2006, almost 6 years ago.
Unfortunately I do not have the original finance agreements as I discarded these when I got the loan through from first+ to pay all my debt off.
Someone mentioned to me that given the accounts were all settled just under 6 years ago from todays date that I may have missed the boat on claiming missold PPI.....are they right?
I'd be really grateful for some clarity.
Many thanks
Gary
