Checking credit card statements

We received our statement yesterday and found it was £250 more than we had expected due to one item which had nothing to do with us. My husband spoke to the credit card company and the woman on the phone said we had done well to pick it up!!
There were only 4 items on the bill and when this one item doubled it we could hardly miss it. We always keep all our receipts and check them against the statement anyway. The woman at Goldfish said you would be surprised how many people don't check and just pay their bill even though there may be things on it they know nothing about!!
