Is this normal - car accident advice

Hi guys
Just after a bit of advice on other people's experience regarding this.
Back in November I was involved in a very minor accident - queuing to a roundabout the car two behind me went in to the back of the car behind me who subsequently went in to me.
No visible damage to my car though there was quite a bit between the other two.
All details exchanged - the middle guy very affable and friendly, checking I was ok (I had my 10 month old in the car with me so was more shaken & worried about her than anything else).
Anyway - insurance informed, car sent off for checking / repair, not even sure they did anything to be honest. My insurers paid my excess for me as it was clearly not my fault.
Since then I have had sporadic emails from my insurers saying that they haven't had any response from the other insurers but are continuing to chase.
Today I got an email saying they still have not had any response and are about to send a final letter threatening legal action and could I send through a statement of what happened and confirm that I would be willing to go to court if required.
Completely wasn't expecting this as I thought it was a fairly straight forward accident. Should this be ringing alarm bells at all?? what should I expect the next stage to be?
No photos etc taken at the time... more fool me that might prove to be.

Perfectly normal. Some insurers are ridiculously slow at settling. My son is in a similar situation and his insurers have issued the legal threat to the third party insurers.0

Thank you Molecat. I suppose I was expecting them to use delaying tactics as much as possible, and wouldn't have expected anything less really. It's just the suggestion that I may have to go to court that's got me spooked - suppose it's meant to have that affect on the third party!
Will compile my statement now and send it off to them so I can't be accused of holding up proceedings.0 -
Slightly different but I had a accident a few years ago where the third party failed to stop at a mini roundabout when I was turning right,
I thought this was a pretty straight forward claim until the third party denied responsibility 12 months later and the day before court they settled without prejudice.
Unfortunately insurers like to take their time0
