Are NHS still funding certain courses?

Hello
I am hoping to study Occupational Therapy at Derby Uni in 2013. I went to an open day last October and they stated that course fees are paid for by the local authority. I am aware the NHS pay a bursary as well.
Now I have been doing some research about uni life (this will be my second degree - career move) and on some websites i have come across it states that i will be charged nearly 7k tuition fees per year!
Have the NHS changed their policy on OT and other courses like nursing etc?
Or is it best I contact the Uni directly?
If anybody else has come across the same, message me please!
Thanks

They're still funding some for this year, but there's no guarantee that won't change for 2013. Is there any chance you could put in a late application to start this September?
Here's the site with all the info:

Unfortunately person one i can't. Been out of education for a while so I am just starting an OU module which Derby Uni want me to do in order to make an application to them.
Also you can see from my sig I have rather large debts to pay off before I leave my FT job at become a student again!
If I do have to pay tuition fees then so be it but I hope they leave it till 2014, here is hoping eh?!In debt no more!0 -
Fingers crossed for you then. I've started again as a student nurse after a career change, I was praying they wouldn't withdraw the funding as I didn't have a hope of being able to pay the fees even at 2011 levels!
What are you doing at the moment? Any chance of getting work as an OT assistant or similar? Then you never know, you might be able to apply for a secondment.0 -
I am always keeping an eye out for assistant jobs. I am currently a live in carer for a gentleman who has a spinal cord injury so its the perfect opportunity to gain experience in order to make an application! There are always OTs coming in and out of his home!
Did a degree about 9 years ago and i cam into the care sector for a change and its led me here! So I am doing K101 - intro to health and social care through the OU, so my application can only be made for 2013. I don't have a good feeling about the tuition fees though!
Good luck with your course! In debt no more!0 -

Do you have any inside information on future changes? The NHS has only just rejigged funding for courses so I didn't expect any major changes in the near future.

How would I have inside information? :rotfl:
The recent changes still don't mean there are any guarantees for 2013 and beyond, with it being the OP's second degree it could be disastrous for her if things do change, better safe than sorry if possible!
Personally, I can't see this government being happy to let all healthcare students keep getting their education for free indefinitely while everyone else is on the hook for nearly 30K.0 -
Both HEFCE and NHS funding are subject to change at very short notice; it is not unusual for notice to go out warning of a change that is implemented the next day with effect from midnight.
But given the recent decision on NHS courses, loubie, all you can do is hope the next major change does not take place until next year.
When do you get you OU results? Would If it is before 1 September would Derby allow you to apply for a deferred place for next year?
And you do realise that under the current rules they pay the fees, grant and bursary but you can usually only get the top-up loan for a year at most?
And well done for tackling the debt.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

I thought that you were training to be a nurse and might have heard one of the tutors mention something. The way you answered the OP's post sounded as if you knew something definite.0 -

Still trying to get my head around all the jargon on fees/bursaries and top up loans!

Hi RAS, Thanks for the wishes, the year is going to be a major debt busting mission I can tell you!
Don't get my OU results until October/November and applying for a deferred place without these results is not allowed so I will see if I can apply to the uni direct first, if not it's UCAS for me!
