You might want to look at http://www.daf-petfood.co.uk/wb/ also distributed by http://rawtogo.co.uk/default.aspx
Many local butchers happily give away bags of pet scraps, I get loads for my cats from the posh local butcher and there are often dog owners picking up big bones and carcasses from him when I go in.

Feeding my two large breed dogs on raw requires a large chest freezer - if I was to buy their meat from a supermarket, I'd be spending around £120 a month at the very least, and that would be buying the value/basics ranges! As it is, I buy from a raw food supplier at a third of the cost, but he only delivers once a month so I have to have the storage space. A smaller dog may be a lot cheaper to feed, you may find a moer convenient supplier, you may have some great local butchers who offer lots of freebie or cheap meats.

can I ask who you use as a supplier? I'm planning on changing my greyhound to raw only diet soon.
    Thanks

I use The Dog Food Company. Based in Suffolk but has a large delivery area (goes further than me in Surrey, know he has drop offs in Camberley and perhaps further). Other companies around the country are Landywoods, Durham Animal Feeds (and their many stockists - look on their website for a list), TMPS, to name a few. Rawtogo deliver nationwide but obviously have courier/postage costs. Berriewoods Wholesale do a range and free delivery in certain areas around the South East. I think there's a few others specific to different areas, e.g. Wales, Scotland, etc.

Just tried the Dog Food Company but they don't deliver to Birmingham :( which is a shame as their prices are fantastic.

Have you checked DAF to see if they have any stockists nearby? They're quite nationwide. Ditto with Landywoods.
Found a link to this place but no idea of prices - http://petsuppliesinbirmingham.co.uk/page/raw_pet_food

Thought I'd share my experience of this for others in a similar situation:

My dog was diagnosed by the vet as having quite a few food allergies. I tried him on a BARF diet to see whether it would help and given that he is quite highly strung anyway (noise sensitive, abused JRT), I found that a BARF diet made him worse as it gave him so much energy which in his case, was negative.

He's now on a dog food, the name of which escapes me which contains potato and I give him a spoonful of boiled rice too which seems to help.

BARF diets are often recommended for working dogs as they sometimes need the extra energy.

I haven't found a raw diet gave my two any more energy than usual, if anything they chilled out a bit more. Different foods do affect dogs in different ways though :)
