Hadenglen PPI 2004

Hi, can anyone help?!
My mum and I took a mortgage out with Hadenglen in 2004 under the 'Right to Buy' scheme. As part of the mortgage we were told that we had to have Accident, Sickness & Unemployment Protection because of my mums age (she was 58 at the time). They also told us that this would be a one off premium of £1283.00. There was no other option made available to us.
I have since realised this was not the case - the ASU was not compulsory, and we could have paid it via Direct Debit. So, I wrote to Hadenglen Plc, who were based in Coalville, and received no response. Today I rang the FOS and was told that Hadenglen were no longer trading so they were unable to help me, but suggested I contact the FSCS. I rang the FSCS and was told that because the ASU (PPI) was sold before 14th January 2005 I would be unable to claim.
I'm not entirely happy with that, can anyone help? Is there any other way to go about putting a complaint in?
Thanks,
Erica.

Game over. Regulation of general insurance only arrived in Jan 2005. Pre-regulation cases dont get the same level of consumer protection as they were pre-regulation.Is there any other way to go about putting a complaint in?
The problem is who are you going to complain to? and who do you want to pay out? The company at fault no longer exist. It was bought before the FSCS was available for that sort of product. Yes, the single premium was wrong but the people responsible are gone I'm afraid.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Oh ok, it's a shame but as you say, there's nothing else to be done. Thanks for the response though0
