However, until smoking is made illegal people should be allowed to do it where it does not affect others. Suppose so
What next, no drinking coffee at work because somebody doesn't like the smell!
A smoking ban in work helped to keep me off the fags. I have been clean and fresh smelling for over 12 years :j . I have to say out of an office of 15 only 4 of us were smokers so we never ever smoked in the office. The only time I ever smoked was upstairs in the rest bar. I cann't believe I was so selfish to inflict that horrid smoke on fellow workers trying to enjoy their break. Work did have the problem of butts on the floor and groups of smokers huddled outside entrances so as it was their private property they banned them from doing so.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

You say they've banned smoking 'out on the road'? is this road their property and are you smoking on their time (time not alloted for breaks)? I'm pretty sure if this is not the case then you can smoke as much as you like.Nothing's free.....but we'll see what we can do!0

they can stop you smoking "on the road" if it is a company car or if you are wearing a company uniform.
Lots of companies have policies where you cannot smoke if you are wearing a uniform as you are representing them whilst you are wearing it.
The best bet for advice on this is the government websites where they offer business advice - you could also contact CAB for advice.
With the overall ban coming though it is unikely that you would be able to get a decision overturned...0 -
Interesting this!
As a non-smoker, I wonder if your company allows non-somkers to:-
a) leave the office early.
or
b) pay them more for having less breaks.Lic.0 -

I only employ non smokers and provide all of my employees and customers with a smoke free enviroment. This has proven to be VERY popular with my staff and customers alike.
I personally find cigarette smoke to be one of the most offensive smells in the world and for this reason (as well as others) I would never employ a smoker again.

p.s. to each new member of staff it is repeated to them that the job was offered to them on the specific understanding that they are a non smoker and that if they are found smoking in works time they will be immediately dismissed.0 -

absolutely - and of the most blatant type you can possibly imagine.
It is also legally, morally, ethically, economically, financially & enviromentally correct.:D :j
Plus, hugely popular with my employees & customers. And it makes me happy as well.
I just wish that more employers would do it.

i think thats great. i cant bear smoking or the smell or anything and i wish more places were none smoking. my mum has started again secretly after 15 years, and i can tell you, its a full time job catching her at it and throwing them out!
we're waiting in my town to see if the ban is going to be in place but its looking less and less likely sadly...0
